Hypoxia Related Data Integration within COAST

The Integrated Approach to Monitoring
Hypoxia in the Northern Gulf of Mexico project was initiated to take full
advantage of the various data integration, multi layer mapping, and temporal
visualization capabilities of the COAST geobrowser to bring many disparate
datasets from different sources and agencies together into a focused visual
analytic tool. The project was also implemented as a prototype for integration
of these datasets into the COAST flexible layered environment to determine the
existing capability of its Worldwind heritage and to set direction for
development of tools and features for future use by a wide range of users.
Agencies/Groups with Hypoxia Related Data Interests
Several agencies and groups have been performing focused assessments of
hypoxia and its possible causative or relational effectors. There are many
contributors to hypoxia research and the Integrated Approach project
implementing COAST began an effort to gather links to datasets that could
provide cumulative insight for researchers looking to quickly visualize
multi-source/multi-temporal data. There are several collaborative hypoxia
study efforts that have formed so as to provide peer-reviewed analysis points
for focused evaluation of identified hypoxia effectors and their possible
contributions to hypoxia in coastal regions. These studies and their current
public access points have been referenced as valuable links into the current
state of hypoxia research and every effort made to provide access to the data
elements identified by them in COAST.
